Visitation Information

Yvonne Grace St. John, age 65, of Sisseton journeyed to the Spirit World on Wednesday, November 17th, 2010 peacefully at her home.

She was born on February 16th, 1945 at I.H.S. to Celeste Eleanor LeBlanc (St. John) and Edward Moses St. John.

She lived in Sisseton until she started her journey in life traveling to numerous places where she made temporary homes in cities like San Antonio, Chicago, and in the state of Michigan. Yvonne finally made it home in 2000, returning to Sisseton after being gone for thirty-six years.

She had many hobbies like gardening, playing bingo, sewing, collecting salt and pepper shakers, knick-knacks, and foremost she loved decorating her home for the holidays.

Her favorite things were her kitty cats, which she cherished with all her heart. Her cats’ names were Boo-Boo, Shorty, Nosey Rosie, Big Kitty and Bad Boy.

She attended Tekawitha Boarding School, Stephan Indian School, Sisseton Public Schools, and went on to further her dream in the culinary arts field in Minneapolis.

Survived by her eight children: Tod Alan Arechiga, Roxanne Grace Tchida, Jolene St. John, (Julie Krass), Geronimo Jose Arechiga-Casarez, Carlos Angelo Casarez, Julio Domingo Casarez, and Juan Diego Casarez; a sister: “Louise” Josephine LaBlanc; ten brothers: Phillip St. John, Robert “Bob” St. John, Edward “Ed” St. John, Rodney “Rock” St. John, Kenneth St. John, Timothy “Killer” St. John, Theodore “Ted” St. John, Roger Jeffers-St. John, Jeff Jeffers-St. John, and Jack Jeffers-St. John; ten grandchildren: Shane and Ashley Arechiga, Justin “Wind” Hayes, Estelle Grace Jones, Kameron Jones, Carlito, Marla, Angelo, Diego, and Julito Cazarez; numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her parents: daughter: Rosa Maria Casarez; granddaughter: Jovonne Denise Jones; sisters: Jennifer “Joy” St. John and Patricia Julia Renner-St. John; brothers: Marlon Smith and Sanford Wayne Jeffers.

Funeral services for Yvonne Grace St. John will be held on Monday, November 22nd at 10:30 A.M. at St. Catherine’s Hall. Father Tony Dummer, OMI, will officiate; Tom Bullhead will officiate at the Traditional Services.

Interment will follow at St. Matthew’s Church Cemetery in Veblen, South Dakota.

A wake service will be held on Saturday, November 20th beginning at 7:00 P.M. at St. Catherine’s Hall

All night wake service will be held on Sunday, November 21st beginning at 7:00 P.M. at St. Catherine’s Hall.
