January 13, 1934 – July 17, 2023

Vincent Joseph Laxen, age 89, of Winsted passed away on Monday, July 17, 2023 at The Gardens at Winsted.

He was born on January 13, 1934 in Winsted, MN to Henry and Rose (Otto) Laxen.

Vincent attended Holy Trinity School in Winsted.

He honorably served his Country in The United States Navy for four years during the Korean War.

On April 4, 1959, Vincent J. Laxen and Cecile Scheid were married at the Church of Holy Trinity in Winsted with Rev. Father Cecil G. Roufs (uncle of the bride) officiating at the Nuptial Mass.    Vincent and his wife Cecile were blessed with three sons.

Vincent was employed at Sterner Industries, Inc. in Winsted as a service man working on the installation and repair/maintenance of dairy equipment for 32 years and as a boiler man at Dairy Farmers of America, Winsted for ten years.   He retired in May of 1998.

He was a faithful member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted and served on the church council.  He was a volunteer fireman for Winsted Fire Department for 21 years and also a member of Martin Krueger Post #407 and V.F.W.   He was a grateful member of AA.

Vincent enjoyed his family, grandchildren and great grandchildren very much.   Over the years he enjoyed camping and fishing and later on in retirement, traveling, going for walks with his wife, bird watching and thoroughly enjoying his retirement.

Survived by his loving wife of sixty-four  years: Cecile; sons: Michael (Dawn) Laxen, Patrick (William Brown) Laxen and Timothy (Ruth) Laxen; grandchildren: Jeremy (Rob Hendrickson) Laxen, Stephanie (Tom) Fiecke, Stacy (Ryan) McCarthy, Laura (Jason) Schroeder, Kevin Laxen, Travis (Tammy) Laxen, Meagan (Fiance Matt Schramm) Laxen, Matthew Laxen, McKaela Laxen, Molly (fiancé Stephen Miner) Laxen, Madison Laxen and Mitchell Laxen; great grandchildren: Lauren, Anna & Carter Fiecke, Ruby & Leif McCarthy, Hunter Schroeder and Finnegan Laxen; other relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by his parents Henry and Rose Laxen, brothers James (infant), Raymond Laxen and his wife Alice, Marcellinus Laxen, Thomas Laxen and Herman Laxen and his wife Inga, sisters Marcella Laxen Weibel and her husband Floyd and Mary Theresa Koester.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial for Vincent Joseph Laxen will be held on Tuesday, July 25, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted.    Father Matthew Wiering will be the Celebrant.

Inurnment with military rites will follow at Holy Trinity Cemetery.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 25th AT THE CHURCH from 9:00 A.M. until time of Mass.

Urn Bearers will be grandchildren: Jeremy Laxen, Stephanie Fiecke, Stacy McCarthy, Laura Schroeder, Kevin Laxen, Travis Laxen, Meagan Laxen, Matthew Laxen, McKaela Laxen, Molly Laxen, Madison Laxen and Mitchell Laxen.

    My condolences to all of Vincent’s family at this difficult time. I believe that he was a first cousin to my father, Bernard Sr. He appears to have been a wonderful guy and I am sure that he will be greatly missed.
