Thomas Lyle Redwing Jr. was born on August 31, 1929. He was one of nine children of Alvina Winters and Thomas Redwing. Tom was a member of the Santee Sioux Nation. Tom passed away peacefully on October 16, 2019.

Tom was a Korean War veteran. He worked as an aircraft mechanic maintaining helicopters in Guatemala for Allied. He also worked for Braniff and Northwest Airlines as a mechanic. He was a hard worker, starting a farming business in Watertown, SD while continuing to work as a mechanic. He spent his last moments at his farm on July 2, 2019 before returning to Minnesota.

Tom is survived by his wife, Hilda; children: Ana and Hassen Qarei, Robert Redwing, Nancy Redwing, Brenda Redwing and Randy Roth and Janet and George Sidor; grandchildren Alejandra and Allan Redwing Larson, Nicholas Redwing, Sandra Kay Redwing, Maliaka Jeme, Scipio Jeme, Thomas Redwing III, Julia Redwing, Elizabeth Redwing, Samantha Redwing, Alexander Sidor and Timothy Sidor, two great-grandchildren Irvin and Lucas Redwing Larson; and his brothers: Virgil and MaryAlice Redwing and Robert Redwing; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Sandra Kay, twin sons; his parents; brothers Rupert, Clayton and Albert; and sisters, Laura Larson, Ellanora Schuelke and Rosella Redwing; other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held at Southshore Community Center, Shorewood, MN on November 1, 2019 at 9:30; services to follow at 10:30 AM with refreshments and celebration of life from 2 – 7PM. Interment with military honors at 1:15 PM at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Assembly Area #5.

In lieu of flowers, donations preferred for his Great Grandsons Medical Fund for Lucas Larson Prune Belly Survivor.

Chilson Funeral Home, Winsted, MN served the family.

    I WAS TOM’S CREW CHIEF FOR MANY YEARS UP UNTIL HIS RETIREMENT FROM HANGER 5. ALWAYS HAD A GREAT TIME WORKING WITH HIM AND OTHERS AND FELT WE ALL WORKED TOGEATHER WELL AND ENJOYED THE B. S. THATS ALWAYS WENT ALONG WITH IT. WENT TO SEVERAL TRACK MEETS THAT HIS DAUGHTER WAS IN AS MY SON WAS RUNNING AT THE SAME TIME FROM PRIOR LAKE. WITH DEEPEST SYMPATHY. BOB STELTER

    Dearest Hilda and all; We are so sorry to hear of Tom’s passing. He was such a good friend to Dad. I will miss seeing him at breakfast at McDonald’s!
