Thomas “Tom” Mathew Genty, age 55, of Winsted and formerly of Minneapolis passed away on Monday, August 14, 2017 at his residence.
He was born on February 5, 1962 in Winsted the son of Richard D. “Dick” & Joan E. (Kirkwood) Genty Sr.
Tom graduated from Holy Trinity High School in 1980 and later from U of M Duluth with a Degree in Graphic Design.
He was formerly employed at Ceridian Company as a payroll processor.
Tom was a very talented and creative person and used these skills volunteering at various child care centers. He was also a past board member of the Aliveness Project. Tom was a fabulous baker and always sharing his confections with others.
Tom will be greatly missed and always loved!
Survived by his loving companion: Scott Schlaffman; mother: Joan E. Genty of Winsted; siblings: Jan (Fran) Eggert of Winsted, Richard (Roberta) Genty Jr. of Chesterfiled, Virginia, John (Sharon) Genty of Waverly, Cindy (Steve) Ernhart of Buffalo, Terry (Al) Ohm Winsted, Kathy McGinn of Alexandria and Maureen (Greg) Sevilla of Fayetteville, North Carolina; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends including special cousin Jacob Christianson.
Preceded in death by his father Richard “Dick” Genty Sr. on February 7th, 2011 and by a brother- in-law Mike McGinn.
A Celebration of Life for Tom Genty will be held on Friday, August 18th, 2017 at 7:00 P.M. at The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted. Father Paul Schumacher will be the Celebrant.
A visitation will be held on Friday, August 18th from 4-8 P.M. at The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted.

I pray that God will bless you and give you the strength to get through this difficult time. Tommy was a wonderful man. I feel so privileged to have known him. That beautiful smile is what I will always remember about Tommy. God bless you Scott and the Genty family.

Tom had one of the most gentlest souls ever. My thoughts and prayers go out to his partner and family. His spirit lives on in all those he touched.

I’m so sorry to hear about Tom’s passing; what a great loss that is! My thoughts & prayers are with you, as you grieve the loss & now celebrate his life today! And what a great life that was ~ I only remember Tom from many (many!!) years ago, working together at St Mary’s when we were high schoolers, and I think most all of us ‘young girls’ were in love with him back then=) He was truly one of the nicest guys that I ever met, and those eyes & that smile…wow…he could truly melt your heart<3 I'm so sorry your hearts are hurting now; may the memory of better days help bring some JOY & smiles back to your lives, too.
