Sylvia Barbara Artmann, age 96, of Winsted passed away on Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at The Gardens of Winsted.
Born on September 24, 1924 in Rogers, Minnesota to Michael & Theresa (Schmitt) Huckenpoehler-moved back to Waconia, MN when 2 years old. Father died when she was 3 ½ and her brother Leon (Hucky) was 1 ½. Went to St. Joseph’s School and graduated from 8th grade and then on to Waconia High-graduated in 1942.
She was preceded in death by her husband Albert Artmann on March 2, 1985 and sister-in-law Marcella Hahn (Artmann), father passed away in 1928, and mother on December 20th, 1985, brother Leon passed away August 1st, 2000.
Survived by children: Mike & Sharon Artmann, Jim & Sue Artmann and Bob & Linda Artmann; grandchildren: Shannon Hjelmen (Artmann), Jenny Silva (Artmann), Kristine Brooks (Artmann), Kimberly Wortz (Artmann), Jim Artmann, Brandon Artmann and Mandy Eiynck (Artmann); great grandchildren: Taylor Brooks, Kaylee Brooks, Blake Brooks, Blane Brooks, Haven Silva, Brek Hjelman, Ashlynn Wortz, Chase Wortz, Nolan Wortz, Adele Artmann, Brielle Artmann, Josephine Artmann and Everett Artmann; brother-in-law: Marvin and wife Dorothy; many nieces and nephews.
She worked in Minneapolis for 1 year and then back to Waconia and worked in the Post Office. Married Albert “Al” Artmann on July 26, 1947, and raised 3 sons Mike, Jim and Bob. Al had an orchestra for many years and started AA Auto in 1958 and served in the army in WW2. She worked with him, waitressed at the Blue Note, and kept on at the Post Office in Winsted until 1989. Retiring after 33 years from the Post Office. Active in church and societies of Holy Trinity. She received the Bishops medal in 1999. Was also a member of The American Legion and VFW Auxiliary.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Sylvia Artmann will be held on Wednesday, May 26th, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. Father Matthew Wiering will be the Celebrant. Interment will follow at Holy Trinity Cemetery.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 26th, 2021 from 9:00 A.M. until 10:30 A.M. at The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted.
Casket Bearers will be Kristine Brooks, Shannon Hjelmen, Brandon Artmann, Kimberly Wortz, Mandy Eiynck, Jim Artmann, Jenny Silva and Taylor Brooks.
My deepest sympathy to you all on the passing of your sweet mother and grandmother. Sylvia was one of my mother’s dearest friends and has always been so kind to me and my family. May she now rest in peace. God bless Sylvia and all of you.
My heart is breaking. My Sadie is flying high with the Angels. Sadie you will always and forever be a second Grandma to me and the best EVER neighbor. Thank you for always keeping the door unlocked and the candy dish full. Whenever I see dandelions I will always think of you. I love you more than you will ever know. Thank you for all the years of wisdom and kindness you have given to our family. My life is so much richer because of you. Prayers and hugs and love and sympathy to your family and friends. Until we meet again.
