Suzanne Kay (Hartje) Gast, age 70 of Cokato, passed away June 18, 2021.

She was born on June 28, 1950 in Storm Lake, Iowa to Kenneth and Barbara (Kern) Hartje. She attended Albert Lea High School and graduated with the class of 1968.

On June 23, 1979 Gerald and Suzanne Hartje were joined in holy marriage at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Watertown, MN. God blessed their marriage with three children: Chad, Valarie and Brenda.

Suzanne was an avid reader and loved to read Western novels. She volunteered at the Howard Lake Community Center, played cards with family and friends, crocheted blankets and other items, and sang with the group, the Sweet Adelines. Suzanne also helped out at car show events with her family, and loved driving cars really fast!

Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She loved spending time with them and they were number one in her life. Suzanne had a very kind and friendly demeanor; she easily could make friends with just about anyone.

Suzanne is preceded in death by her husband, Gerald in 2015; father, Kenneth; and nephew, Andy Sease.

She is survived by her children, Chad (Nicole) Hartje, Valarie (Ben) Lauzer, and Brenda (Nick) Rasset; grandchildren, Ashlyn, Taya, and Malia Hartje, Andrew and Jacob Lauzer, and Devon and Coleton Gast; mother, Barbara Hartje; sister, Patricia (Arlen) Ciechanowski; brother, Robert (Rhonda) Hartje; nieces and nephews, Erica (Darrin) Fischer, Adam (Jaime) Barfknecht, Corey (Sara) Barfknecht, Paul Sease, Matthew Sease, and Justin Mack; sister-in-law, Lynda Zabel; and many other relatives and friends.

Memorial service will be held Sunday, June 27, 2021 at 2:00 PM with visitation beginning one hour prior at Chilson funeral home in Winsted. Inurnment will follow at Woodland Cemetery in Waverly, MN.
