Shirley Shepherd Windom “Hoske” (In the Valley), age 74, of Pennington, Minnesota journeyed to the Spirit World on Saturday, January 8, 2011.

She was born on April 20, 1936 in Waubay, South Dakota the daughter of Raymond Shepherd & Lena Hayes.

Shirley was a homemaker. She loved being around family and relatives. Shirley was a big inspiration to everyone who knew her!

She supported her daughter, grandsons and other family members who sundanced.

Shirley left her family and grandchildren with good teachings. She carried her traditional ways and applied those to her daily life.

She was a member of St. James Episcopal Church in Enemy Swim and The Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate.

Survived by her husband: William Windom Sr.; sons: Levi Williams Jr. of Bemidji, Minnesota and Troy Williams of Pennington, Minnesota; daughters: Barb Jens of Sisseton, South Dakota, Roberta Williams and Lisa Williams both of Penington, Minnesota; thirty three grandchildren and forty six great grandchildren; brothers: Raymond Shepherd Jr. of Sisseton, South Dakota and Moses Keeble of Waubay, South Dakota; sisters: Ethel Bissonette of Rapid City, South Dakota, Sophie Bissonette of Cass Lake, Minnesota and Marlys BlueDog of Sisseton, South Dakota; other relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by a son: James King, a daughter: Imogene Williams, her father: Raymond Shepherd Sr. and by her mother: Lena Hayes.

Funeral services for Shirley Shepherd Windom will be held on Thursday, January 13th at 2:00 P.M. at The Community Center in Enemy Swim. Interment Windom Family Cemetery. Father Chan, Father Les Campbell and Traditional Spiritual Leader Danny Seaboy will officiate.

Drum Group will be “Turtle Island”. Pianist will be Billy Kohl.

All night wakes will be held on Tuesday, January 11th and Wednesday, January 12th beginning at 7:00 P.M. at The Community Center in Enemy Swim.

Honorary Casket Bearers will be family, relatives and friends.

Casket Bearers will be Daniel Shepherd, Brandon Shepherd, Corwin BlueDog, Rafeal BlueDog, Curtis Bissonette, Eugene Bissonette, Tyler Shepherd and Roy Crazybull.

The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted, Minnesota is serving the family.
