Rupert Conrad Downwind Jr., age 61, of Redby, Minnesota journeyed to the Spirit World on Friday, December 28, 2012 at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
He was born on October 26, 1951 in Red Lake the son of Rupert Conrad Downwind Sr. and Alberta Marie Gurno.
Rupert was formerly employed as a chemical counselor for The Red Lake Nation.
He enjoyed golf, attending pow- wows ,traditional dancing and Native artwork.
Survived by sons: Robert Joseph Downwind and Robert Louis Halett; daughters: Michelle Thompson , Jade Downwind and Brianna Downwind; fourteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren; brothers: Harlan Downwind and Bradley “Windy” Downwind , Byron “Barney” (Chrissy) Downwind Sr. , David (Jessie) Downwind Sr., Ross (Shelley) Downwind Sr.; sisters: Beverly (Terry) Thomas and Jeanine (Chris) Downwind-Jubera; many other relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by a son: Kiiyotahsay, his parents, brothers & sisters: Kevin Downwind, Mitchell Downwind, Lora Downwind.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Rupert C. Downwind Jr. will be held on Wednesday, January 2nd, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Red Lake, Minnesota
Interment St. Mary’s Church Cemetery.
An all night wake was held on Sunday, December 30th, 2012 at All Nations Church in Minneapolis beginning at 5:00 P.M. All night wakes will also be held at The Redby Community Center on Monday, December 31st, 2012 and Tuesday, January 1st, 2013 beginning at 6:00 P.M. going until till time of Mass on Wednesday morning.
Honorary Casket Bearers will be Ross Downwind, Byron Downwind, Harlan Downwind, Bradley “Windy” Downwind, David Downwind and Terry Thomas.
Casket Bearers will be Bradley Downwind, Michael Thomas, Randy Thomas, Xavier Little. Dino Downwind and Chris Jubera.
