Robert Lorenzo (Loren) Owen, age 54 of Flandreau, South Dakota and formally of Pipestone, Minnesota, Journeyed to the Spirit World on Friday, March 9, 2018. He was born in Sisseton, South Dakota on April 24, 1963 the son of Aubrey Owen Sr. and Estelle (Canku) Owen . Loren attended school in Sisseton and grew up in Long Hollow. He was a member of the Sisseton – Wahpeton Oyate. Loren was a very spiritual person who enjoyed traveling. He deeply loved Deanna, his children and grandchildren, along with his special sister Gail Marie Owen. Survived by his daughters: Stephanie Chanku, Lindsay Chanku, Ashley Owen, and Sherri Chanku; Twenty-Three grandchildren; former wife: Deanna; brothers: Aubrey Owen Jr. and Lance Owen; sisters: Betty Ann Gross, Gail Marie Owen and Joyce Brazee; a host of other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by his parents, sisters: Pauline Owen, Carol Owen, Audrey Owen and Shirley Buus; a brother Ervin Cook Sr., paternal grandparents: Earl Pierce Owen and Ida Lawrence Lorenzo Owen; maternal grandparents: Edward and Annie Standfast Canku. Funeral services for Robert Lorenzo (Loren) Owen were held on Wednesday, March 14th, 2018 at 12 Noon at The Long Hollow District Center. Reverend Clifford Canku Sr. officiated and interment followed at the Ascension Presbyterian Cemetery in Big Coulee,rural Peever, South Dakota. A visitation was held on Monday, March 12th, 2018 beginning at 7:00 PM. An all-night wake was held on Tuesday, March 13th 2018 beginning at 7:00 PM. Both wakes were held at the District Center. Drum groups were The Cook Boys and The LeBeau Group. Honorary Casketbearers were Loren’s children, grandchildren, extended family members, Melvin Chanku Jr., Heather Chanku, Mel Crowe and Ashley Herrera.
Casketbearers were Ron LeBeau, Vince Owen, Justin and Jesse Canku, Sterling Owen, Donald Skylar, Ronald Cook, Wambdi Cook, Sylvester Yellowback, Ervin Cook Jr., and Russell Smith.
