May 14, 1932 – May 17, 2023

Rita Ann Laxen, age 91, of rural Winsted passed away on Wednesday evening, May 17, 2023 at her residence.

She was born on May 14, 1932 in Winsted Township the daughter of Edward & Anna (Fiecke) Sterner.

On October 6, 1951, Rita Ann Sterner and Leo A. Laxen were joined in holy marriage at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted.   God blessed their marriage with eleven children.

Rita was a homemaker and was very proud of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.   She enjoyed gardening, canning, her flowers, watching birds, playing cards, puzzles, and embroidering.  Rita was an awesome cook!   She also enjoyed watching game shows and Westerns.   She was very sharp about politics.

She was a lifetime, faithful member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted.  Rita prayed the Rosary daily and watched Mass on T.V. every Sunday.

Survived by her loving children: Michael Laxen (Linda), Donald (Cindy) Laxen, Carol (Gerry) Bisping, Gerald (Sharon) Laxen, Linda (Eugene) Handt, Kevin Laxen, Luanne (James) Arlt, Jeannette (Edward) Eastling, Gregory Laxen, Joann Scherping and Jeff Laxen; grandchildren and great grandchildren; siblings: Florian, Edward, Eugene Sterner and Annette Grzeskowiak; many other relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by her husband Leo A. Laxen, her parents, a son-in-law Terry Scherping, grandson Jamie Sides, and siblings Andrew, Margaret, Clement, Regina, Lucille, Marian, Mary, Agatha, and Cletus.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial for Rita Ann Laxen will be held on Monday, May 22, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted.    Father Matthew Wiering will be the Celebrant.

Interment will follow at Holy Trinity Cemetery.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, May 21st   from 4-7 P.M. at The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted.   A Prayer service will be held at 6:30 P.M.   Further visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday morning, May 22nd from 9:30-10:30 A.M.

Casket Bearers will be her six sons.

    I’m sorry for your loss. We are lucky to have a generally long living family. I’m the granddaughter of Lucille, Rita’s sister. I don’t know many of the extended family, but I know how awesome my grandma Lucy was, and remember Rita being very nice too.

    I remember family reunions where all those sisters would sit at a table and brightly chat and reminisce. I loved listening to them, it was like years melted away and they were all young and giggly again. I bet they are doing the same right now, looking down on us.
