Peter J. Poetz, age 76, of Winsted passed away on Sunday, October 28, 2018 at St. Mary’s Care Center in Winsted.

He was born in Shakopee, MN on August 11, 1942 the son of Alphonse and Mary (Green) Poetz.

Pete enjoyed fishing and hunting, loved his dog Buster, watching baseball, collecting 45’s for his jukebox and loved Civil War history.

He joined the US Naval Force in 1959 serving aboard the U.S.S. Hancock through 1965.

Pete worked as a bricklayer in his early years while residing in Arizona, later becoming a barber and working in north Minneapolis where he later had a shop in Howard Lake, MN and retired after 19 years in Howard Lake.

On May 21, 1990 he was joined in holy marriage to “Nellie” (Ittel) Lachermeier.

Survived by his loving wife Nellie; step-children Lisa Hagen, Lonnie Lachermeier, Angela (Ken Kutz) Lachermeier and Lanny Lachermeier; a daughter Carla Rohrer; a son Peter Poetz II; twelve grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brothers Lee Poetz, Larry (Kathleen) Poetz and Clifford Poetz; brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; nieces, nephews and cousins; many other relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by his parents and by a sister Mary Lou Mulroy.

Mass of Christian Burial for Peter J. Poetz will be held on Monday, November 5, 2018 at 11 AM at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted, MN. Father Michael Doyle will be the Celebrant. Interment with military rites will be held at Holy Trinity Cemetery. A time of gathering will be held at the church on Monday, November 5th beginning at 9 AM.

Urn Bearer will be Kaisha Hagen. Honorary Urn Bearers will be his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Pete’s family who will make a donation in his name to a charitable cause.

Chilson Funeral Home, Winsted, MN is serving the family.
