Visitation Information
Naomi Zelma (Renville) Lufkins, 67, died on August 6, 2009 at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, ND from long-term illnesses. For the past 31 years she lived at the Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate Housing Authority, Peever Flats, located southeast of Peever, SD. Living with her was her partner Allen Owen, granddaughters Tia Owen, Sharlow Morrison, and great-grandson Blake Keeble. She also helped raise two other granddaughters, Shawna Morrison and Chastity Lufkins.
Recognizing the need for childcare among her family members, Naomi became a licensed childcare worker and opened on in-home daycare in 1994. She continued in this work until suffering a heart attack in 2003.
Naomi loved to cook and bake as indicated by her large collection of cookbooks. Family members had numerous opportunities to taste her delicious salads and baked goods at the many get-togethers that they had.
She leaves behind one daughter Lorae Mercado, and two sons Wayne Lufkins and Delvin Lufkins, besides three sisters Roberta Trevino, Floresti8ne Kiyukanpi Renville, Chyrel DeCoteau, and one brother Byron Renville.
One daughter preceded her in death, LaVonne Morrison, and one half-brother Kenneth Renville, brother Mandis Renville, one sister Adrienne Ree, husband Kenneth Lufkins, and her parents Robert and Blossom Renville.
Funeral services were held at the Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate Community Center, Agency Village, SD on August 10, 2009. Burial was at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, Agency Village, SD
