Melinda Arona Kappel, age 88 of Winsted passed away on Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at St. Mary’s Care Center in Winsted.
She was born on December 25, 1921 in Winsted the daughter of John V. and Anna I. (Rathmanner) Kappel.
Melinda was baptized at Holy Trinity Catholic Church on December 28, 1925. Her godparents were Joseph J. Kappel her uncle and Annie I. Schlagel her aunt.
She attended holy Trinity School (Grade 1-Grade 12) graduating in June of 1940. In June, 1941 she graduated from the teacher Training School in Hutchinson. Some rural schools she taught in were near Hutchinson, Silver Lake, Mayer, Jordan, Winthrop, Gibbon and Watertown. Her B.S. Teaching degree was earned at St. Cloud State University. She later taught at Holy Trinity Elementary School for forty plus years.
She was a faithful life, long member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and belonged to the Catholic Aid Society and C.C.W.
Melinda liked attending art fairs, concerts, parades and historical trips.
Dogs were her favorite animals. She enjoyed feeding birds and was called by some people the “Bird Lady.”
Survivors include a sister: Veronica Kappel; nieces: Michelle (Evon) Weber of Chaska, Lisa (Paul) Dondlinger of Eagan, Pauline Kelzer of Calfornia; nephews: Gary Seymour of Grand Rapids, Gregg (Kim) Seymour of Watertown, Ken (Charlene) Kelzer of California, Raymond (Rysia) Kelzer of Colorado, William (Tomasina) Kelzer of California, Charles ( Labey) Kelzer of California; great nieces, great nephews, great, great nieces and great, great nephews.
Preceded in death by her parents: John and Anna I. (Rathmanner) Kappel, sisters: Florentine (Ray) Kelzer, Elizabeth (Cy) Seymour, Lorraine (Ernest) Greshowiak; brothers: Vincent Kappel and by a niece: Joy Seymour.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Melinda Kappel will be held on Saturday, September 18th at 1:00 P.M. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. Father Tony Hesse will be the Celebrant. Interment will follow at Holy Trinity Cemetery.
A visitation will be held on Saturday morning from 10:00 A.M. until time of services at the church.
Communion Distributors will be Francis Schommer, David & Karen Dawes and Jean Kappel.
Casket Bearers will be Gary Seymour, Gregg Seymour, Fran Kappel, Evon Weber, Dan Weber and Matt Seymour.
