June 22, 1928 – March 27, 2024

Maxine Phyllis Haekenkamp, age 95, of rural Winsted, after a brief illness, passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.

She was born at home on June 22, 1928 in St. Paul, the daughter of Maximillian Henry and Tillie (Wawrzyniak) Skweres.

On February 3, 1948, Maxine P. Skweres and Edwin H. Haekenkamp were joined in holy matrimony at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted.  God blessed their marriage with nine children.

Maxine and Edwin operated a dairy farm west of Winsted for many years.  Her interests included family gatherings, bird watching, gardening, hand embroidery, fishing, playing cards and jigsaw puzzles.

She was a faithful member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted and belonged to The St. Anne’s Society.  

Maxine is survived by her nine children: Phyllis Smith of Lester Prairie, Ronald (Julie) Haekenkamp of Greenfield, Kevin (Vicki) Haekenkamp of Faribault, Shirley Haekenkamp of Hutchinson, Cathy Haekenkamp of New Brighton, Todd Haekenkamp of Winsted, Glen (Jodi) Haekenkamp of Moorhead, Bruce Haekenkamp of Winsted and Jesse (Dawn Stender) Haekenkamp of Mayer; 15 Grandchildren: Amy (Bradley) Klima, Jason (Bea Vega Vargas) Nass, Holly Nass, Nicki (Scott) Thonander, Jenie (Bruce) Fritz, Mandi (Jason Sundin) Lindstrom, Brent (Samantha) Haekenkamp, Candis (Logan) Rome, Kay (Josh) Woodworth, Wayne Hennessey, Rebecca (Greg) Asche, Matthew (Michelle) Haekenkamp, Daniele (Carlye Speer) Haekenkamp, Jacob and Brianna; 25 Great Grandchildren plus one due in April; a half sister: Diane Olds and a half brother: Richard (Patricia) Skweres; sisters-in-law: Mary Ann Mallak, Judy Haekenkamp, and Marlys (Sonny) Carlson; and many other relatives and friends. 

Preceded in death by her loving husband Edwin; her parents Maximillian Henry Skweres and Tillie (Wawrzyniak) Skweres; brothers: LeRoy (Ruthie) Skweres, Henry (Julia) Skweres, Daniel Skweres, Maximillian Skweres and Frank Skweres; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Hubert and Eleanore Haekenkamp; sisters-in-law: Agnes (Emil) Kautz, Eleanor (Harold) Kegler; brothers-in-law: Robert Mallak, Hubert Haekenkamp, and Loren Monson; a son-in-law Jim Smith and by a great grandson Elijah Woodworth. 

A visitation will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church in Silver Lake on Wednesday, April 3rd, 2024 beginning at 9:00 A.M. until time of Mass.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Maxine Haekenkamp will be held on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Silver Lake. Father John Hayes will be the Celebrant. Alice Nowak will be the organist for the Mass.

Interment Holy Trinity Cemetery in Winsted.

Casket Bearers: Jason Nass, Scott Thonander, Brent Haekenkamp, Matthew Haekenkamp, Connor Nass and Dalton Kinneman.
