Magdalen “Mixie” (Laxen) Schlagel, age 80, of Winsted, died Saturday, January 22, 2011, at St. Mary’s Nursing Home in Winsted. Mixie was born November 23, 1930, in Winsted, MN, to Joseph and Clara (Sagstetter) Laxen She married Daniel Schlagel at Holy Trinity Catholic Church and the couple made their home in Winsted. God blessed their marriage with two sons. Magdalen was the office manager at Millerbernd Manufacturing in Winsted until her retirement in 2003. She was a member of the Holy Trinity Council of Catholic Women and St. Anne’s Society. She enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, tending her flowers and bowling.
Magdalen is survived by her children: Arthur (Debbie) Schlagel of Winsted, MN and Bradley (Barbara) Schlagel of Aitkin, MN. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Neil (Susie), Jacob (Rachel), Nathan, Brandon and Allison Schlagel, all of Winsted, MN . She is further survived by step great-grandchildren; Abby, Emily and Isabelle Roufs, and great-grandchildren; Greta, Lincoln and Max Schlagel, all of Winsted, MN, along with other relatives, and friends. Magdalen was preceded in death by her husband Daniel Schlagel in 1995, her parents, Joseph and Clara Laxen, sister and brother-in-law; Sally and Paul Millerbernd, and brothers and sister-in-law; Art and Edie Laxen and Edward Laxen.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Tuesday, January 25, 2011, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted at 10:30 a.m. Fr. Tony Stubeda will be the celebrant, and interment will follow at Holy Trinity Cemetery. Visitation will take place at Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted on Monday, January 24, 2011 from 4-8 PM. CCW Rosary will be held at 7:30 PM and prayer service will be held at 7:45 PM. Further visitation will take place at the funeral home on Tuesday morning from 9:30 -10:00 AM.
Honorary casket bearer will be Allison Schlagel. Casket bearers will be Neil Schlagel, Jacob Schlagel, Nathan Schlagel, Brandon Schlagel, Michael Laxen and Tim Laxen.
The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted served the family.
