Lora “LaLa” Jeanne Desjarlait Hawkins, “Monido Equay” (Spirit Woman) age 60, of St. Paul and formerly of Red Lake started her Journey to the Spirit World on Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at her residence.

She was born on February 13, 1953 in Red Lake the daughter of Simon & Margaret Roberts Desjarlait.

Lora was a homemaker and a wonderful mom, grandmother and great grandmother.

Family meant a lot to Lora and
she enjoyed spending time with her special granddaughter Ja’Naya Rose. She loved traveling, pow wows and loved dancing. She also enjoyed sewing, going to Walmart and to the Ol’ Ladies store. Lora liked to make jokes and laugh.

Survived by her husband: Daryl Hawkins; five loving children: Roselee Desjarlait and Curt Desjarlait both of Red Lake, Touresa Desjarlait of Cottage Grove, Crystal Hickman of St. Paul and Jedediah Desjarlait of St. Paul; twenty grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren; two sisters: Mary Ann Cook and Wilma Roy-Mondragon of Red Lake; brothers: Lonny Desjarlait, Roland Roy, James Roy and William Roy Jr. all of Red Lake; aunts that raised Lora after the death of her mother: Marian Roy of Red Lake, Judy Moreno of St. Paul and Joan Cobenais of Wisconsin; many other relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by her parents: Simon & Margaret Desjarlait, brothers & sisters: Simon Desjarlait, Marlene Desjarlait, Roland Desjarlait, Roselyn Desjarlait and Douglas Desjarlait.

Funeral services for Lora “LaLa” Desjarlait Hawkins will be held on Sunday, March 24th at 2:00 P.M. at The Red Lake Community Center.

Spiritual Advisor will be Allen Hardy and Murphy Thomas Jr. assisting.

Drum Group will be “TC Boyz”

An all night wake will be held on Saturday, March 23rd beginning at 9:00 A.M. at The Red Lake Community Center.

Honorary Casket Bearers will be all of Lora’s grandchildren and great grandchildren, Rick Troft, Montana Teoke, Dakota Desjarlait, Lonny Desjarlait, Christian Hickman, Dave Loud and Murphy Thomas III.

Casket Bearers will be Jed Desjarlait, Daryl Hawkins, Curt Desjarlait and “Bear” Demarrias.

The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted, Minnesota is serving the family.

    I’d just like to say may you always be in her thoughts and dreams to comfort her (Roselee) for she so needs your guidence at times good and bad… If you meet my mother where you are can you please tell her I love and miss her soo!! Thank you and I’m sure if I meet you I could say the same to you as well as I know Roselee misses and loves you too!! R.I.P.
