Leocadia “Codie” Helen Barrett, age 92, of Winsted died Friday evening, October 19, 2007 at St. Mary’s Care Center in Winsted.

She was born on December 9, 1914 in Silver Lake the daughter of George & Nancy (Cacka) Lewandowski.

“Codie” grew up on a farm.

On October 21st. 1936, Leocadia H. Lewandowski & Arthur “Kiddle” Barrett were joined in holy marriage in Silver Lake. God blessed their marriage with five children.

“Codie” owned The Beauty Cap Beauty Shop which she operated out of her house for 20 years.

“Codie” was known for her sense of humor and “telling it like it is”. She enjoyed playing cards, bingo, puzzles, knitting and crocheting. In her earlier years, Codie enjoyed raising big gardens and growing potatoes.

She was a faithful member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. “Codie” also belonged to The Prayer Chain, St. Anne’s Society, Holy Family Council #204 and the V.F.W. Auxiliary in Winsted.

“Codie” belonged to the Chix-Chix card club with a few other ladies.

Survived by her loving children: Jim (Jeanette “Jan”) Barrett of Alexandria, Judy (Ron) Bayerl of Winsted, Janet (Jerry) Carlson of Lebanon, CT, Jack (Vonnie) Barrett of Howard Lake and Jill (Brad) Bush of Winsted; thirteen grandchildren and twenty four great-grandchildren; a brother; Ambrose Lewandowski of Winsted; a sister; Clara McMahon of St. Paul; sisters-in-law: Marge Lewandowski of Watertown, Cordie Lewandowski of Litchfield and Loretta Klobe of Waite Park and other relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by her husband: Arthur “Kiddle” Barrett on June 5, 1979, her parents: George & Nancy Lewandowski and two brothers: Ernie and Tom Lewandowski.

A Mass of Christian Burial for “Codie” Barrett will be held on Tuesday, October 23rd at 11:00 A.M. at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. Father Brian Oestreich will be the Celebrant. Interment will follow at Holy Trinity Cemetery in Winsted.

Alice Nowak will be the organist for the Mass.

A visitation will be held on Monday, October 22nd from 4-8 P.M. at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted. A V.F.W. Auxiliary Service was held at 4:30 P.M., a combined St. Anne’s Society Rosary and Holy Family Rosary was recited at 5:00 P.M. A Prayer Service will be held at 7:30 P.M.

Casket Bearers will be Shaun Bush, Steve & Ron Lewandowski, Mike, Mark & Scott Barrett.
