In loving memory of Kathleen Lyn “Beana” Lufkins Bird, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister journeyed to the Spirit World on Friday, April 10th, 2009 at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
She was born on December 14, 1946 in Sisseton, South Dakota the daughter of George & Ida (Goodbird) Lufkins.
Kathleen attended Long Hollow Day School and Wahpeton Indian School. She went on to school in Minneapolis, Minnesota for The Culinary Arts.
Kathleen Lyn Lufkins was joined in marriage to Paul Bird Sr. in 1964 and from this union, three children were born: Ann Marie Bird, Tim Dillow and Paul Dillow.
In 1974, Kathleen met the love of her life, Gary LaBatte Sr. and to this union, another daughter was born: Kaylene Bird.
Kathleen enjoyed many activities such as jigsaw puzzles, gin rummy, whist, yahtzee, 10,000 and knuts. She enjoyed cooking and baking. Her famous baked beans will be missed! Kathleen enjoyed and took pride in taking care of her grandchildren: Kaci Neilan & Westen Hill. She also enjoyed laughing and brought much laughter to her brothers, sisters, nieces & nephews. Kathleen enjoyed listening to music especially George Jones.
Kathleen is survived by her husband: Gary LaBatte Sr.; daughters: Kaylene Bird and Ann Marie Bird; sons: Tim & Paul Dillow; grandchildren: Kaci Neilan, Westen Hill, Rachel Dillow and Zachary Dillow; three brothers: Narcisse, Dennis and Stanley Lufkins; five sisters: Marcella Haug, Margaret Lufkins, Faith Lufkins, Georgia Thompson and Lorna Drum; numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her parents: George & Ida Lufkins, two brothers and four sisters: Vernall Lufkins, Rodney Lufkins, Georgianna Pemberton, Mary Johnson, Leona Lufkins and Elverna Helps.
Funeral services for Kathleen Lyn Lufkins Bird will be held on Wednesday, April 15th at 2:00 P.M. at The Community Center in Old Agency Village, South Dakota. Reverend Filmore Simon and Reverend Richard Felch and Jr. Heminger will officiate. Interment will follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery.
Special music will be provided by Drum group “Redstorm”
All night wakes will be held on Monday, April 13th and Tuesday, April 14th beginning at 7:00 P.M. at The Community Center in Old Agency Village, South Dakota.
Honorary Casket Bearers will be Lauren White, Barb Mulligan, Matha King, Lolita Gill, Wanita Bagola, all her nieces, friends and family: Lisa R., Janelle D., Jaime B.,

Casket Bearers were Lyndon Haug, Jeremy Brown, Jason Brown, Trevor Brown, Perry Lufkins, Todd Kampeska, Mitch Lufkins, Amos White, (alternates) Berulo Dominguez, Terry Haug, Drago Lufkins and Westen Hill.
