Visitation Information

John L. Cole, age 86, of Minneapolis and formerly of Columbia Heights, Minnesota passed away on Thursday, December 16, 2010 at Hennepin County Medical Center.

He was born in DeKalb, Mississippi the son of Frank & Fannie J. Rush Cole.

John honorably served his Country in The United States Army Air Force from January 20th, 1943 until December 25, 1946.

As a young man, John worked in construction. He also formerly was employed as a warehouseman for Western Container Corporation.

On July 2, 1978, John L. Cole & Jennie Faye Simon were joined in holy marriage at The Community Covenant Church in Minneapolis.

He loved fishing, barbeques, rides in the car and was a very kind hearted man!

Survived by his wife: Jennie; a daughter: Janice Ann; a brother: Willie Cole; brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law: Mike (Priscilla) Simon, Filmore (Christina) Simon, Barb Mail and Francis Simon; other relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by his parents, four siblings, father-in-law & mother-in-law: Paul & Amelia Simon, two brothers-in-law and by a sister-in-law.

Funeral services for John L. Cole will be held on Wednesday, December 22nd at 10:30 A.M. at The Community Covenant Church, 901 Humboldt Avenue N. in Minneapolis. Reverend Luke Swenson, Filmore Simon and Mike Simon will officiate. Interment will follow at Fort Snelling National Cemetery with full military rites.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 21st beginning at 6:00 P.M. with services at 7:00 P.M. at The Peterson Chapel St. Michael-Albertville Funeral Home, 300 North Main Street in St. Michael, Minnesota.

Honorary Casket Bearers will be Robbie Laughter, Tim Laughter, Forrest Simon, Barb Mail, Christina Simon, Brenda Tyler, Elsie Washington, Carol Sundholm, Hazel Sloan, Vernella Jackson, Pam Haukom, Frank Atlas, Gretta Simon and all of John’s relatives and friends.

Casket Bearers will be John Ross, Curtis Jackson, James White, Chris Ross, John “Pappy” Anderson, Joshua Laughter, Danny Simon and Harold Trestman.

    I will always remember my uncle with the fondest of memories, the happy times we shared and his laugh and smile.
