Visitation Information

Jean Onnen Volness, age 80, of Arlington passed away on Thursday, May 26, 2011 at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.

She was born on July 23, 1930 in Hebron, Nebraska the daughter of Gerhard & Rexsta Free Onnen.

On June 26, 1950, Jean Onnen & Arnold Volness were joined in holy marriage in Mason City, Iowa. God blessed their marriage with four children.

Jean was formerly employed for many years by McLeod County as a home healthcare nurse.

She enjoyed collecting antiques, garage sales and horse racing.

Jean was also a dedicated volunteer of The Republican Party.

Survived by her sons: David Volness of Arlington and Paul (Laura) Volness of Cokato; six grandchildren: Samuel & Luke Poquette; Jacob, Angela, Bailey and Joshua Volness; brothers: Gerhard (Mary Ann) Onnen of Yates Center, Kansas and Tony (JoAnn) Onnen of Cokato; other relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by her parents, siblings: Marilyn Onnen, Geraldine Braasch, Elaine Brown and Clifford Onnen, husband: Arnold C. Volness on September 21, 2002, a son: Steven on April 1, 1999 and by a daughter: Katherine on August 18, 2010.

Funeral services for Jean Onnen Volness will be held on Wednesday, June 1st at 11:00 A.M. at Good Shepherd Free Lutheran Church in Cokato. Pastor Kurt Lehmkuhl will officiate.

Interment will follow at Good Shepherd Free Lutheran Cemetery in Cokato.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 1st one hour prior to services at the church.

Casket Bearers will be Jake Volness, Angie Volness, Sam Poquette, Bailey Volness, Josh Volness and Matthew Nelson.

Chilson Funeral Home, Winsted is proud to have served the family.

    My sympathies to Jean’s family. Since I’ve known Jean she’s always praying for the best for her family, especially her grandchildren. May God comfort all of you for your loss.
