Janice Marie Barrett, age 71, of rural Montrose passed away on Sunday, October 16, 2011 at her residence.
She was born on January 5, 1940 in Traverse County, Minnesota the daughter of Matt & Gertrude Gullickson Koltes.
Janice graduated from Elbow Lake High School in 1958.
On July 28, 1962, Janice M. Koltes & Gerome H. Barrett were joined in holy marriage in Tintah, Minnesota. God blessed their marriage with three children.
She was formerly employed at the telephone company (Northwestern Bell, AT&T, Qwest) for twenty nine years.
Janice was a smiling, laughing person who loved to travel. She and her husband moved to rural Montrose ten years ago from Andover, MN.
Survived by her loving husband of forty nine years: Jerry Barrett; three children: Becky (Tom) Burnham of Centerville and their children: Sofi and Grace; Brian Barrett of Montrose and Cathy (Joe) Dolge of Champlin and their children: Kristen and Andrew; Sisters and brothers: Betty (Don) Dennis of Indiana, Dorothy (Dick) Shannon of Wisconsin, Jerome (Mary) Koltes of Andover and Clifford (Peggy) Koltes of Wayzata; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by her parents, a twin sister; Janet, a sister; Lois, and a brother; Billy.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Janice Barrett will be held on Friday, October 21st at 10:30 A.M. at The Church of St. Mary in Waverly.
Interment St. Mary’s Cemetery.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 20th from 4-8 P.M. at the church. Further visitation will be held on Friday morning, October 21st one hour prior to Mass at the church.
Casket Bearers are Tim Koltes, Troy Koltes, Jim Shannon, Tim Cronin, Mark Barrett and Steve McKay.
The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted is serving the family.

Our thoughts and prayers for you all. I graduated with Janice and have many wonderful memories. I remember her as being very kind, sincere and always with a beautiful smile. We ventured to Mpls. (the big, big city for us)the summer of our junior year.
