James Owen Menden, age 81, of Winsted passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at his residence.

He was born on January 18, 1939 in Shakopee the son of Herbert and Alice (Ploumen) Menden.

James was baptized on February 3, 1939 at Ascension Catholic Church in Norwood. He was later instructed in the Lutheran Catechism and confirmed in the Christian faith on December 13, 1961 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winsted.

On November 8, 1958, James Owen Menden and Doris Jean Mielke were joined in holy marriage at the parsonage of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Watertown Township. God blessed their marriage with four children.

Jim was formerly employed as a cheesemaker at Mid-Am in Winsted for over forty years. He also delivered the Star Tribune for many years.

For the past thirty-eight years he has cut wood and heated his home with it. Jim enjoyed ice fishing, spearing and going to car shows with his collector truck.

He was a faithful member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winsted.

Survived by loving wife of sixty-one years: Doris Menden; children: Kevin (Rose) Menden, Dawn (Mike) Laxen and Rick (Sheryl) Menden all of Winsted; grandchildren: Racheal (Greg) Ackermann, Emily (Bryan) Schaust and Zachary Menden and friend Taylor; Jeremy Laxen and friend Rob, Stephanie (Tom) Fiecke and Stacy Laxen and friend Ryan; Jesse (Jenni) Menden, Jason (Helen) Menden, Jonathan (Brittney) Menden and Amber Menden and friend Philip; eight great grandchildren; sisters: Jeanne Vidlund, Betty Miller, Joy (Mike) Holloran and Judy (Larry) Pelton; many other relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by his parents, a son Derald Menden in 1977, sister Marsha Dingwall and by parents-in-law Herbert & Eillene Mielke.

Funeral services for James “Jim” Menden will be held on Monday, January 27th, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winsted. Pastor Dave Hormann will officiate. Bruce Gatz will be the vocalist. Interment will follow at Winsted Public Cemetery.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, January 26th from 4-7 P.M. AT THE CHURCH. A Prayer service will be held at 7:00 P.M. Further visitation will be held on Monday, January 27th at the church one hour prior to services.

Casket Bearers will be Jim’s five grandsons and god child Sue Huepenbecker.
