James Monroe Handboy, age 91, of Minneapolis journeyed to the Spirit World on Monday, February 25, 2013 at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis.
He was born on July 5, 1921 in Promise, South Dakota the son of Joseph Handboy and Julia Veaux.
James was drafted in The United States Army in August of 1942. He was inducted at Fort Snelling, Minnesota, stationed in Camp Forrest, Tennessee in 1942, 1943 in Europe, England, participated in the D-Day June 7th, 1944 invasion of Normandy on Omaha Beach, Germany in 1944, Battle of The Bulge in late 1944, Korea in 1952 and Japan in 1953.
Survived by daughters: Silvia Schmidt, Lisa Parish, Rita Handboy, Roberta Handboy, Teresa Handboy, Jackie Handboy and Ann Severson; grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren; a sister: Irene Thompson (Phoebe); Special friends: Mary Aspnes and Jon & Sally Lebedoff; many other relatives and friends.
Funeral service Friday, March 1, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at Indian Ministries, 3045 Park Avenue, Minneapolis. Reverend Claudia Windal will officiate.

A wake will be held on Friday, March 1, 2013 from 9:00-11:00 A.M. at Indian Ministries.
The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted, Minnesota is serving the family.
