James Leon “Jimmy” Bernard, age 55, and a member of The Sisseton- Wahpeton Oyate Journeyed to The Spirit World on Thursday, July 12, 2012 at Unity Hospice in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

He was born in Sisseton, South Dakota on June 16, 1957 the son of Delano Edward Bernard & Elizabeth Keeble.

James attended school in Waubay, SD. He was employed for many years as a truck driver in Chicago, IL and his favorite football team was the Chicago Bears. After retiring from truck driving, he then moved to Green Bay, WI where he lived the remainder of his life.

Survived by his siblings: Twila Jourdan, Melissa & Lonnie Selwyn, Daniel & Carol Taylor all of Wisconsin, Alan Shepherd, Harold, Delmer, Darwin, Debra and Doreen Bernard all of Sisseton, South Dakota; uncles: Maynard Bernard and Orson Bernard; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Jason Taylor,Troy Selwyn, and Edwayne Bernard and by a sister: Denise Taylor.

Funeral services for James Bernard will be held on Friday, July 20th, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. at The Community Center in Old Agency Village, South Dakota. Pastor Milton Owen and Jr. Heminger will officiate.

Interment Keeble Cemetery in Enemy Swim, South Dakota.

Casket Bearers: Alan Shepherd, Harold, Delmer and Darwin Bernard, Ed Rousseau and Lee Bernard.

Honorary Casket Bearers will be all of his family and friends.

An all night wake will be held at the Community Center on Thursday, July 19th beginning at 7:00 P.M.

Arrangements for James L. “Jimmy” Bernard are by The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted, Minnesota.

    He was like a brother to me and a true gift for his wit and grace he showed to all. I will miss him but share our stories with my kids, he will be missed.
