Horace L. Max journeyed to the spirit world from the Fargo Sanford Hospital on July 28, 2011 after a lengthy illness. Horace was born on April 14, 1937 to Ida King and Horace Max Sr.
Horace spent most of his life in the Long Hollow area except for a brief time when at the young age of 17 years he left to work on road construction where he worked for many years. He later met and married Norma His Gun who he was dedicated to for 43 years until she passed in 2006. Norma and Horace raised three children: Dennis Enoch, Alvarah Enoch and Tim Max. Horace returned home to work for Landsberger where he remained for 17 years, then he went to work doing what he knew best and loved, and that was working road construction for the Roberts County Hi-way Department. Horace remained there until he retired.
Horace was a very dedicated and compassionate family man, when Norma became ill he never left her side, always accompanying her to her medical appointments and cared for her in their home until she passed away on February 29, 2006.
Horace will be remembered in the Oyate communities for his presence at community events and gatherings, for always willing to visit others, his caring attitude and kind words to others and his sense of humor. Horace loved to play softball, horseshoes, checkers and most of all he loved reading to his grandchildren.
Horace leaves behind his children; Dennis Enoch, Tim Max Sr. both of Sisseton, South Dakota and his daughter Alvara Enoch of Sioux falls, South Dakota and his beloved grandchildren; Tim Max Jr., Josh Max and his great granddaughter Amayah Max. His sisters; Verzella Huckfeldt of Long Hollow and Marvella (Dolly) Fischer of Watertown, South Dakota.
Services for Horace will be held at the Long Hollow District Center on Sunday evening at 7:00 pm July 31, 20011, with an all night service on Monday August 1, 2011 with his final service on Tuesday August 2, 2011 at 2 pm.

R.I.P. Uncle Horace
Tim,
So sad to hear about your dad. A very hard time to go through. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
Verzella and family,
Sorry about Horace passing. I could not get to services and am sorry for that. I enjoyed Horace’s company after church the past 5-6 years and especially traveling with him to job interviews the past year. He was a very likeable man and willing to talk to anyone. He had a good sense of humor but a serious side also. His suffering is over and he’s at rest with Norma.
Rest in peace, Uncle Horace.
