Grover Laverne Fallis “Ohinna Cante Duha U Wicasa” One Who Gives His Heart To The People, journeyed to the Spirit World on Monday, January 24, 2011 at the Mayo Methodist Hospital in Rochester, MN after a long courageous fight with cancer.

Grover was born on April 12, 1950 in Pierre, SD at St. Mary’s Hospital to Vilas and Hildegarde B. Fallis. Grover grew up on the Crow Creek Reservation where he lived with his grandparents, Cleve and Lucy Fallis in Big Bend along the Missouri River. Grover attended elementary schools in Stephan, McKinley, and “Busy Bee” country school. He went on to graduate from Immaculate Conception High School in Stephan, SD in 1968. Grover joined the United States Army in 1968 and served until 1971. He valiantly served during the Vietnam War with a Psychological Operations Unit. In 1979-1981 Grover attended college at Hawarded Iowa and worked with the president of the college for a number of years. In 1980 until medical conditions caused him to retire, Grover worked for the BIA. In 2000, Grover met Mary Lou Jetty, his soulmate, and made her his wife on January 29, 2005. They were married in their home in Fort Totten, ND, where they happily made their home and cherished each other each and every day.

In November 2010, Grover received the phone call for his transplant and spent the last two months and 3 days in Rochester, MN. Grover began his journey to the Spirit World on Monday January 24, 2011 with his wife, Mary Lou, his son, Cory, his sister, April Ann, and his brother, Jim and nephew Jr. Fallis by his side.

Grover is survived by: his wife, Mary Lou Fallis; Sons-Cory Duane(Red Fawn) Fallis, Tory McCaulley
Daughters-Kerry Lynn(Butch Hair) Fallis; Bobbi Jo Fallis; Tiffany Fallis
Stepchildren-Chad Ziegler, Brooke (Ron McKay, Jr.) & Ricky (Alison Lawrence) Walter, Jr.
Grandchildren- Aubri, Isiah, Baby Rhonda, Jesse, Savannah, Devon, Aurelia Jo, Kingston, Dane, Anaya, Tronis, Tiaune, Leigha, Cristian, Ayliyah Peyton, Cory Jr., Bronson, Beau, and Baby Ron-whom Grover lovingly called “My little friend” and spent many, many days together over the past two years. Grover often picked him up from school just to spend the day with him.

Please forgive us if we have forgotten to mention anyone’s names during this very difficult time it is not intentional and we apologize.

Grover went onto the Spirit World to reunite with his son, Christopher Dean Fallis; nephew, James Fallis; niece, Chrissy Fallis, parents, Vilas & Hildgarde Fallis, grandparents, Cleve & Lucy Fallis; brother Barry Fallis; Uncles Les Youngbear, Larry Youngbear, Clarence Fallis, Stanley Fallis, Brother Fallis; Aunties Clara Harrison, Ella Collins; and cousin Alvin Fallis, Sr.

Wake services were held on Thursday January 27, 2011 at Grover’s home in rural Fort Totten, ND. We traveled the second part of our journey to Lower Brule, SD on Friday, January 28, 2011 for wake services that began at 5pm at the Community Center. Funeral Services were on Saturday, January 29, 2011 at 1pm; Interment at Immaculate Conception Cemetary in Stephan, SD.

Pall bearers were Cory D. Fallis, Sr., Jim Fallis, Rocky Fallis, Raymond Jetty, Cody Russell, Tote Carpenter, Lee Gourneau, and Chad Ziegler.

    I was very sad to hear of Grover passing away. Even though he was sick the times, I saw him he never complained. I knew him many years, we were in the Army together 40 years ago. He was a good person and friend and will be missed always. He will forever be in my thoughts and prayers always!!
