Gary F. Crawford, age 63, of Sisseton, SD journeyed to the Spirit World on Monday, September 26, 2011. He was born on February 20, 1948 in Sisseton the son of Lester Crawford, Sr. and Edith Robertson. The seventh of eight children, he was raised by his grandparents, Bill and Angeline Robertson, and his uncle and aunt Francis and Marie Crawford.

He attended school at Wahpeton Indian School in Flandreau and graduated from Sisseton High School in 1968.

Gary enlisted into the United States Army on 8/12/1968 where he served in Vietnam from 6/23/1970 through 5/23/1971, where he was honorably discharged earning the National Defense Service medal, Sharp shooter-14, expert M-16, 1 overseas bar, Vietnam Service medal and Vietnam Campaign medal “11th Light Infantry Brigade”

Gary enjoyed fishing, sports, and casinos.

He is survived by three sons, John Heminger, Michael Crawford & Ta’te Crawford and 2 grandsons, Julian Crawford & Brandon Heminger, his special companion Eleanor Kirk, a brother Lester “Puggy” Crawford of Eden, SD; 3 sisters June Azure of Arlee, MT, Rose McGuire of Golden, CO and Lillian Wanna of Veblen, SD, and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by hi parents, grandparents Bill and Angeline Robertson & Abraham and Cora Crawford, a sister Cora and 2 brothers Earl Crawford and Donald “Ducky” Crawford.

Funeral services for Gary Francis Crawford we held on Saturday, October 1, 2011 at the Veblen District Center at 1:00 PM. Arnold Williams, Cecil Renville and Butch Felix officiated.

Pallbearers were Lincoln Wanna, Dan LaBelle, Little Bill Cox, Spencer Julius, Julian Crawford, Wayne German, Jr., Michael Buckanaga, Charles Cox, Jr., and George MacConnell.

Honorary Pallbearers were Bill Cox, Doc Wanna, Dayton Seaboy, Myron Williams, Tuffy MacConnell, Harry Buckanaga, Arnie Renville, Ponce Owen, Lincoln DeMarrias, Floyd Beaudreau, Butch Williams, Darrell White, Dale Hannasch, Gerald Thompson, Les Barse, Sr., Harvey DuMarce, Wesley MacConnell, Harry Moshier, Spencer Wanna, Jake Thompson and Vernon “Ham Bone” White.

Interment was at St. Luke’s Cemetery in Veblen, SD

The Chilson Funeral Home of Winsted, MN served the family.
