Eugene “Gene” Paul Fasching, age 64, of Winsted passed away on Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at his residence after a year-long battle against pancreatic cancer.
He was born on May 24, 1945 in Watertown the son of Adolph “Ted” & Margaret “Margie” Scheiber Fasching.
On November 26, 1966, Eugene “Gene” P. Fasching and JoAnn M. Fasching were joined in holy marriage at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. God blessed their marriage with four children.
Gene co-owned and operated The Winsted Body Shop for over thirty years. He enjoyed drag racing and raced competitively for 20-plus years. In the 1990s, he served on various national racing teams as a crew member. He also designed and fabricated racing components and was co-owner of Triple T Race Products for the past 15 years.
Gene was a life long member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. In recent years, he became more involved in his church. Gene volunteered many hours at the Higher Ground Music Festival, he was also active in his church’s Alpha Group, area men’s Bible Study and served as a Communion Distributor. He also belonged to Knights of Columbus Council # 8253
Survived by his loving wife of forty-three years: JoAnn M. Fasching; children: Ted (Lori) Fasching of Winsted, Yvette (John) Dockendorf of St. Stephen, Terry (Julie) Fasching of Waverly and Troy (Veronica) Fasching of Howard Lake; eleven grandchildren: Connor Fasching; Mikayla, Mackenzie, Mitchell, Macy Jo and Madalyn Dockendorf; Christopher, Caroline, Andrew and Ivy Fasching; and Wyatt Fasching; two sisters: Barbara (Harlan) Stender of New Germany and Vonnie (Dale) Barsness of Danube; mother-in-law: Derrolla Fasching of Winsted; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by his parents: Ted on May 5, 2001 and Margie Fasching on August 16, 2005, a granddaughter: Geneva Fasching on August 25, 2000 and by his father-in-law: William Fasching.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Gene Fasching will be held on Monday, December 28, 2009 at 10:30 A.M. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. Father Tony Hesse will be the Celebrant. Interment will follow at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, December 27 from 4-8 P.M. at The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted. A Prayer service will be held at 7:30 P.M.
Further visitation will be held on Monday morning, December 28th at the funeral home 9-10 A.M.
Nathan Schlagel will be The Lector.
Gift Bearers will be granddaughters.
Honorary Casket Bearers will be grandsons.
Casket Bearers will be Jerry Brown, Steve Fiecke, George Fleury, Joel Pettit, Marty Schermann and Ken Westrup.
