Ernest W. “Ernie” Bayerl, age 95 of Glencoe and formerly of Winsted passed away on Friday, September 8, 2023 at GlenFields Living with Care.

He was born on April 13, 1928 in Winsted the son of Joseph and Johanna (Libei) Bayerl.

Ernie honorably served his Country in The United States Army.

On November 24, 1954, Ernest W. Bayerl and Janet C. Cacka were joined in holy marriage at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Silver Lake.   God blessed their marriage with two children Steve and Kathy.

He was formerly employed at J.R. Clark as an assembler.

Ernie enjoyed gardening, yard work and birds.

Ernie was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted and belonged to The Knights of Columbus Council #8253.   He was also a member of The Winsted American Legion Post #407.

Survived by two children: Stephen (Kathleen) Bayerl of Buffalo and Kathy Mathews of Glencoe; three grandchildren: Nathan (Misty) Bayerl, Nicholas Mathews and Danielle (Cameron) Palmer; three great grandchildren: Henry, Audrey and Elma; a sister-in-law: LaVonne Cacka; many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his wife: Janet, his parents, son-in-law Dean Mathews, brother and sister-in-law Andy & Martha Bayerl, brother Isadore Bayerl, brother-in-law Lorin Cacka, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Francis and Elaine Otten, niece and nephew Joyce and Joe Quast, nephew Gary Corr and nephew Ron Bayerl.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Ernest “Ernie” Bayerl will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2023 at 10:00 A.M.       at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted.   Father Matthew Wiering will be the Celebrant.

Lavon Kielkucki will be the organist for the Mass.

Interment with military rites Holy Trinity Cemetery.

A visitation will be held on Friday, September 15th from 4-7 P.M. with a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 6:00 P.M.  and a Prayer Service at 6:30 P.M. at The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted.

Further visitation will be held on Saturday morning, September 16th at the funeral home one hour prior to Mass.

Honorary Casket Bearers will be Elma, Henry, Audrey, Marlys, Joan, Joyce, Mary, Ann, Ron, Jean and Carol.

Casket Bearers will be Bruce Otten, Chuck Otten, Mike Otten, Mark Cacka, Paul Cacka and Joe Bayerl.

    Ernie Dear, I am forever thankful I was able to spend all the years at GlenFields with you. I loved listening to your stories, your excitement over Santa coming and being “a good boy”, your love of Saturday music and anticipating your newest great grand baby with you. I will miss you Ernie Dear, until we meet again.
