Elsie Elaine Fairbanks, age 74 of Saint Paul.

Elsie was called home on Saturday, February 16th 2013, at the age of 74. Elsie was preceded in death by her parents Mary Jane (Martin) and Paul Prentice, her husband Juel Fairbanks Sr., her sisters Philomine, Marie, Gloria, Dorothy, and her brothers, Paul, and John. Survived by her children: sons, Alden (A.J.), James (Jimmy Dean), Michael, Christopher, Juel Jr., and Daughter Michele, and her brother Rodney Prentice, Sr. (Rocky). Grandmother to 17 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Elsie Elaine (Prentice) Fairbanks spirit name, “Ma’iinganens” which means “Little Wolf” in the Ojbwe Langauge was born to on February 12th 1939 in Red Lake, MN. Her hobbies included family gatherings, visiting friends and families, eating out, watching Food Network, the news, watching her grandchildren dance at pow-wows, cooking, going to bingo, and going to the casino to play the Keno machines.
She attended school and graduated from Red Lake High School in the year 1957. She moved to Minneapolis, MN. She where she met and married Juel Fairbanks, Sr. on February 29th 1964. After they married, they moved to Saint Paul, MN. She was employed by Saint Paul American Indian Center, the Red School House, and Saint Paul Council of Churches-Department of Indian Work. She was a Board member of Juel Fairbanks Halfway house and the Elders Lodge. She was very active in the American Indian Community. She devoted her life to helping others. She was especially dedicated to helping families during the holidays, Thanksgiving, and the start of school. She made sure that families had holiday gifts, Thanksgiving turkeys, and school supplies.
A wake will be held at Saint Paul Council of Churches-Department of Indian Works, 1671 Summit Ave, Saint Paul, MN 55105. The services will start Monday, February 18th 2013 at 5:00pm. The wake will continue in Red Lake, MN at the Redby Center on Tuesday, February 19th 2013 at 5:00pm. The funeral services will be Thursday, February 21st, 2013 at 1:00pm at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Red Lake, MN.
