Elizabeth Ann “Betty” (Hausladen) Diers, age 80, of Winsted, MN passed away on September 2, 2015 at the Garden House in Winsted.
She was born on October 2, 1934 in Hollywood Township, Carver County, MN the daughter of Henry and Beatrice (Janikula) Hausladen Sr.
She was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. She graduated from Holy Trinity High School and continued her education at the College of St. Catherine where she graduated with an RN degree. She also attended St. Francis College and graduated with a BS in Health Arts at the age of 50 years.
Betty worked in the nursing profession most of her life including St. Mary’s Hospital in Winsted, Watertown Community Hospital, Ridgeview Medical Center, Family Care Associates and St. Mary’s Care Center working with home care and the Long Term Care Unit. She was also able to do some private duty nursing. Nursing was an important part of her life and she truly loved it!
Betty served on several professional committees in the community. She was very active in the American Cancer Society. She was a vice-chair and State Trainer for the State Women’s Cancer Issues Committee, she was a presenter for workshops on cancer throughout Minnesota. Betty was awarded the Individual Achievement Award in Public Education in 1993 and the National Citation in Public Education in 1994.
She loved working with and caring for God’s people. She was instrumental in the formation of the Holy Trinity Parish Council. She served on the Liturgy Committee for several years, was involved with the Holy Trinity Choir and the Norwood Chorus for many years, was a Eucharistic Minister and served on the Holy Trinity Board of Education. She assisted the parish and school update health policies and equipment. She was also a volunteer at Birthright and was a volunteer director of ministry to the homebound. Betty had a love for music and enjoyed playing the organ. She also enjoyed biking and had fun biking the 50 miles for the Holy Trinity School Marathon. She loved nature, especially the birds and flowers, she said she could always see God in nature.
Betty was the historian and nurse for her family, especially the Hausladens.
She felt her greatest contribution to society was putting together a Health Program for the American Cancer Society for teaching teens about cancer that included teachers’ manuals, posters, brochures, and assisting with the production of a video. She felt the most important things in her life were her faith and her family and her greatest friend and partner was Glenn.
She is survived by loving husband Glenn Diers, children Bruce Schurmann, Brian Schurmann (fiancé Heidi Morrison) and Brenda (Gary) Miller; step-children Mark (Patty) Diers, Janis (David) Judd, Carol (Gary) Davis and Dean (Michele) Diers; grandchildren Theresa (Bob) Linder, Travis Schurmann, Kaitlyn Schurmann, Jeff (Liesha) Diers, Keith Diers (fiancé Bridgett Comee), Andy Judd, Beth (Dusty) Smith, Daryl Davis (special friend Holly Jackson), Dylan Davis (special friend Trish Nauber), Amanda Diers (special friend Chad Hockemeyer), Casey (Brennan) Walz, and Ben Diers; great-grandchildren Addison Linder, Reagan Linder, Brody Jolly, Keean Davis, Jace Davis and Wallace Davis; brothers and a sister Eugene Hausladen, Marie Zeidler, Jim (Dianna) Hausladen; sister-in-law Alice Hausladen; many other relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by an infant daughter Barbara, her parents and brothers Henry Hausladen Jr. and Jerry Hausladen.
Mass of Christian Burial for Betty Diers will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2015 at 10:30 AM at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. Father Paul Schumacher will be the celebrant.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 4, 2015 at Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted from 4-8 PM. A prayer service will be held at 7:30 PM. Further visitation will be held one hour prior to services on Saturday, September 5th at the funeral home.
Private interment at Holy Trinity Cemetery.
Honorary Casket Bearers will be Mary Hausladen-Larson, Kristy Gueningsman, Mark Schurmann, Diane Mielke and Linda Kluever.
Casket Bearers will be Andy Hausladen, James Hausladen, Danny Hausladen, Tony Hausladen, Scott Zeidler, and Brad Zeidler.
Chilson Funeral Home, Winsted, MN assisted the family with arrangements.

Glenn and family; Betty will be missed greatly by all those whose lives she touched in every great and even little way. May she be with all the saints in heaven.
Glen, Betty has always had a special place in our family since she lived with us in Waconia.
