Edwin Julius Pawelk, age 92, of Winsted died early Wednesday morning, January 30th, 2008 at St. Mary’s Care Center in Winsted.

He was born on January 11, 1916 in New Germany the son of Emil & Emelia Emilie (Goede) Pawelk.

Edwin was baptized on February 6, 1916 at St. Mark Lutheran Church in New Germany. He was also instructed in the Lutheran Catechism and confirmed in the Christian faith by The Reverend Theo Rolf on April 13, 1930 at St. Mark Lutheran Church. His Confirmation memory verse was Matthew 26:41 “Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

In 1942-43 Edwin served in the 142nd???? Armored Division of The United States Army.

On August 28, 1948, Edwin Julius Pawelk & Clara Josephine Paul were joined in holy marriage at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winsted. God blessed their marriage with twin sons.

He was formerly employed for over thirty three years at Pure Milk in Winsted.

Edwin was a faithful member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winsted.

Survived by loving sons: Douglas P. (Mary) Pawelk of Winsted & David P. (Marilyn) Pawelk of Lester Prairie; three grandchildren: Cassandra Pawelk, Lynette Pawelk (fiancé Kyle Alger) and Paul Pawelk; two step grandchildren: Jim McKnight and Tina (Chad) Duenow; five step great grandchildren: Donovan, Dominic, Dakota, Jessica & Jonathan; brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law: Gilbert (Joan) Paul of Lester Prairie, Dorothy (David) Micka of Hutchinson, Alice Paul of Silver Lake and Lillian Paul of Fridley; many other relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by his wife: Clara Pawelk on January 31st, 2003, his parents, sisters & brothers-in-law and brothers & sisters-in-law: Agnes (Paul) Jakubic, Ida (George) Reese, Lillie (Henry) Lohrke, Oscar (Mabel) Pawelk & Roy (Marcella) Pawelk and Arles (Roland) Zellmann.

Funeral services for Edwin Pawelk were held on Saturday, February 2nd at 11:00 A.M. at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winsted. Pastor Don Urbach officiated and interment with military rites followed at Winsted Public Cemetery.

A visitation was held on Friday, February 1st from 4-8 P.M. at The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted. A Prayer Service was held at 7:00 P.M. Friday evening.

Sharon Pingree was the organist for the funeral service. Bruce Gatz was the vocalist and he sang “How Great Thou Art”, “I’m But a Stranger Here”, “Nearer, My God, to Thee” and “The Lord’s Prayer”.

Casket Bearers were Bob Kutz, Terry Kutz, Larry Biske, Doug Telecky, Darril Telecky and Jim McKnight.
