Edward Owen Bird, age 31 of Sisseton, South Dakota passed away on Friday, August 11, 2023 at Ava’s Hospice in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Ed was born on July 4, 1992 the son of Fran Bird and Fred Small of Sisseton, South Dakota. He attended Sisseton and Tiospa Zina Tribal School. After his schooling he worked with his uncle doing various jobs. These jobs included construction, carpentry and masonry. Masonry being the one he enjoyed the most. He also did side jobs with his step-dad Glen Wanna Sr. He loved working on cars with his uncles, Lincoln and Bud, whom he cherished very much. At one time, he helped rebuild car # 56b. His other hobbies included drawing, playing games, and listening to music.
His favorite NFL team was the Philadelphia Eagles. He enjoyed spending time with nieces and nephews. He had a daily routine of cooking breakfast for niece’s Florence and Eddelynn and baby Graison. He also liked spending time with his niece Reese and had a special bond Aliyah (mamas). Ed had a big heart and always made sure everyone was taken care of before himself. He was known by many and will be sadly missed.
Ed is survived by his mother: Fran Bird; father: Fred Small; his three brothers: Emerson Bird, Elliott Bird, and Clinton Small all of Sisseton, South Dakota; two sisters: Jasmine Crawford and Sylvia Small of Sisseton, South Dakota; aunts: Caroline and Lindy Bird, Bertha Greely, Francine Hays, Sharon Nerison all of Sisseton, South Dakota; uncles: Lincoln (Devola) Bird, Curtis Small of Sisseton, South Dakota.
Edward was raised by his late uncle and aunt Bud and Orvella Bird, whom he considered his parents. They have four children: Shennoah, Gabby, Bud Jr. and Alexx (JJ) which he also he considered to be his brothers and sisters. He also considered Noelle Bird as his sister.
Preceded in death by his step-dad: Glen Wanna Sr.; maternal grandfather: Lincoln Bird Sr.; paternal grandparents: Gladys Small and Slyvester Small; uncles: Buddy Bird Sr., baby Joseph Bird, Gary and Clayton Small. Daron and Marlo White; aunties: Valarie Bird of Sisseton, South Dakota and Melissa Smith of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
An all-night visitation will be held on Thursday, August 17, 2023 beginning at 7:00 P.M. at Agency Village Community Center in Agency Village, South Dakota.
A funeral service for Edward Owen Bird will be held on Friday, August 18, 2023 at 2:00 P.M. at Agency Village Community Center in Agency Village, South Dakota.
Officiating will be Pastor Jim Bird, Layreader will be Mike Lafontaine.

Interment will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Agency Village, South Dakota.
