Edna Clara Selma Bentz, age 93, formerly of Lester Prairie passed away on Thursday, February 7th, 2013 at The Marie Steiner Kelting Hospice Home in Chaska.
She was born on June 30, 1919 in Arlington Township, Sibley County the daughter of Edward & Lizzie Brockoff Quast.
Edna was baptized on July 11, 1919 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Arlington by Reverend R. Heidemann. She was also instructed in the Lutheran Catechism and confirmed in the Christian faith on April 9, 1933 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church by Reverend R. Heidemann.
On December 29, 1937, Edna C. Quast and Albert J. Bentz were joined in holy marriage at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Arlington by Reverend R. Heidemann.
Edna was a homemaker. She was a hard worker who passed her work ethic on to her children and their families.
She enjoyed gardening, her flowers, animals and feeding the birds. Edna loved helping people especially the elderly.
She was a faithful member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winsted. She also belonged to its Ladies Guild.
Survived by her loving children: Theodore ( Marlene) Bentz of Chanhassen, Merlin (Judith) Bentz of Chaska, Marlane (Richard) Venske of Arlington, Shirley (Richard) Gehlen of Yuma, Arizona, Sharon Holasek of Waconia, Al (Brenda) Bentz and Dianna (Roger) Lepel all of Lester Prairie and Linda (Ronald) Knox of Shakopee; daughters-in-law: Karen Bentz of Shakopee and Bonita Bentz of Lester Prairie; thirty-three grandchildren, fifty-eight great grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren; a brother: Milo (Viola) Quast of Arlington and a sister: Verna (Herman) Hahn of Gaylord; nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by her parents: Edward & Lizzie Quast, her husband: Albert J. Bentz in 1984, an infant son: Ronald “Ronnie” in 1957, daughter & son-in-law: Marlene & Virgil Schuette, sons: Harlan & Delmer Bentz, great granddaughter: Lindsey Compart, a grandson: Ray Tersteeg III, a granddaughter: Danee Bentz, a granddaughter: Loretta Bentz, sisters: Evelyn & Bernice Rose, a brother: Lyle Quast and by a son-in-laws: Ronald Voight and Shorty Holasek.
Funeral Services for Edna Bentz will be held on Tuesday, February 12th at 11:00 A.M. at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winsted. Pastor Mark Loder will officiate.
Interment will follow at The Winsted Public Cemetery.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday morning, February 12th from 9-11:00 A.M. at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winsted.
Casket Bearers will be Richard Gehlen III, Gary Voight, Doug Bentz, R.P. Knox, Dustin Bentz and Eric Bentz.
