Darril Orville Telecky, age 72, of Winsted, passed away Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at his home in Winsted.

He was born on July 8, 1944 at the Hutchinson Community Hospital. Darril was the son of Henry & Ruth (Bryngelson) Telecky.

He was baptized on November 26, 1944 at Stockholm Church, by The Reverend Godfrid Carlson. Darril was confirmed at First Presbyterian Church in Howard Lake.

Darril received his early education in Winsted and Howard Lake and graduated from Howard Lake High School on May 31, 1962. He furthered his education by attending St. Cloud State University and also the University of Minnesota.

Darril was united in marriage to Linda Custer on April 8, 1967 at St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake. The couple made their home in Winsted and their marriage was blessed with two children Jill and Aaron. They shared over 49 years of marriage.

Darril was employed by Mammoth Industries for a few years, then he worked at Sterner Lighting Systems for thirty seven years, after the closing of the Company, he was employed by Tetra Pak for a short while.

He played a Fender Bass guitar in a band named The Chiantis with Dick Roufs, Bob Kappel and Dave Sherman for many fun packed years.

He was an assistant wrestling coach for Holy Trinity Catholic High School and was honored by having some of his team members compete in the State Championships.

Darril was a member of The Winsted Volunteer Fire Department for over twenty years.

He was a competitor and enjoyed being on Trap shooting, bowling and horse shoe leagues. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping with the family. His John Deere lawn tractor was in constant motion in the yard as was the golf cart.

Darril was a proud and active member of The First Presbyterian Church of Winsted and after its closing on October 13, 1996, became a member of The First Presbyterian Church of Howard Lake.

Darril was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Ruth Telecky, a brother Dale, and by a sister Debbie.

Survived by his wife: Linda; a daughter: Jill (Tony) Adrian of Yorktown, Virginia; a son: Aaron (Anna) Telecky of Rochester, Minnesota; grandchildren: Nikolas and Samantha Adrian, and Isabelle, Ruthie and “Sully” Telecky; brothers: Duane Telecky of Hill City, Minnesota and Douglas (Cathy) Telecky of Winsted; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors, friends.

Darril was an organ donar through the U of M.

A Memorial Wake will be held on Friday, August 12th from 4-7 P.M. at the church. A Prayer Service will be held at 7:00 P.M. Friday evening.

A Celebration of Life for Darril O. Telecky will held on Saturday, August 13th at 2:00 P.M. at First Presbyterian Church in Howard Lake. Pastor Jake Van Pernis will officiate. Bruce Gatz will be the vocalist for the service.

A gathering of family and friends will follow the service.

    What a wonderful brother Darril was. A kind heart, a gentle soul, a wonderful man. We will miss him terribly, but know that he will live on in spirit and always be at our sides.

    Dearest Telecky Family: Our hearts go out to each of you. Your family is just precious. Our prayer is that you would all be comforted and encouraged through this difficult valley. May you find yourselves smiling as you reflect on and celebrate wonderful memories of Darril as a husband, dad, grandpa, uncle and friend. The times he and Linda visited Rochester Baptist, they brought a ray of sunshine with them. Our lives are better for having known such a great man.
