Darlene Marie Stone, age 70, of Bemidji, Minnesota, went home to be with her Creator on July 18, 2018. She was born on August 25, 1947 in Ponsford, Minnesota, the daughter of Sophie and John Stone. She grew up in the Ponsford area as a middle child with eleven siblings.

Darlene went to school at Minneapolis Community Technical College (MCTC). In 1973, she achieved a Minnesota Nursing License. Darlene was an excellent nurse and used those skills throughout her life. She was a good
hard worker and humbly cared for patients, as well as her family.

Darlene traveled a lot during her life. She lived in Minneapolis, Park Rapids, Washington DC, and Michigan. During the last years of her life, she lived in Bemidji, where she continued her life’s work of tending to family, and most importantly, raising her grandsons.

Darlene loved Native art, gardening, and the simple joys of each day. She liked to let loose once in a while at the Moon—Yung Casino. She just loved being with her grandkids. She was generous to both family and friends.

Darlene walked the path of Feather and Cross. She smudged daily, and was known to always have Cedar on hand. One of her favorite hymns
was What a Friend We Have in Jesus. She is already greatly missed by her friends at Peoples Church.
Darlene leaves behind loved ones to cherish her memory. Grandsons: Connor Thunder, Corey Thunder, Damien Mason, Devin Thunder, of Bemidji; daughter Cassandra (Courtney) Thunder of Minneapolis; grandchildren: Jesse Thunder, Terrance Thunder Jr, Dakota, Thunder, and Sushi Thunder; son Terrence Thunder Sr, of Bemidji; grandchildren: Alvin Thunder, Jr, Joseph Thunder, Niomi Thunder, of Fargo, North Dakota; her sister; Pauline Stone One Feather; brothers: Merlin Stone and John Stone Jr., and ex-husband Harry Williams, of Michigan.

The family that Darlene joins again include her son David, who joined Creator as an infant; her parents, Sophie and John; her sisters and brothers: Marvin Stone Sr., Bernadine Stone, Betty Nicholas, Geraldine Rock, Seraphine Stone Chosa, Irene Stone, William Stone, and Maxine Stone Partridge.

Pallbearers are Corey Thunder, Connor Thunder, Joseph Thunder, Terrance Thunder Sr., Damien Mason, and Courtney Mason. Honorary pallbearers are Cassandra Thunder, Devin Thunder, Terrance Thunder Jr., Niomi Thunder, John Stone, and Alvin Thunder, III.

An overnight wake for Darlene will begin at 7pm, Friday,
July 27, 2018 at Peoples Church ELCA, Bemidji, Minnesota. Private visitation for family only will be 4pm-7pm. Sharing memories and offering prayers will begin at 11am on Saturday, July 28, 2018, along with celebration Feast.
