Visitation Information

Darlene Kern, age 73, of rural Waverly died Wednesday, November 19th, 2008 at The Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park.

She was born on July 17, 1935 in Eureka, South Dakota the daughter of Reinhold & Martha Eiseman Wanner.

Darlene was baptized at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church by Reverend Freyman in Wishek, North Dakota. She was also instructed in the Lutheran Catechism and confirmed in the Christian faith in 1949 at St. Luke’s by Reverend T.F. Doyen.

On January 21, 1962, Darlene Wanner and Wallace Kern were joined in holy marriage in Bismarck, North Dakota. God blessed their marriage with three sons.

Darlene was formerly employed as a Medical Secretary for a Clinic in Bismarck, North Dakota.

She enjoyed sewing and gardening.

Darlene was a faithful member of St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake.

Survived by loving husband: Wallace E. Kern; sons: Ronald Kern of Watertown, Randall Kern and Gregory Kern both of Dassel; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Barb Smith of Howard Lake, Bea (Don) Zellman of Arlington, Waldemar (Gretta) Kern of Waverly and Warren Kern of Howard Lake; many other relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by her parents: Reinhold & Martha Wanner.

Funeral services for Darlene Kern will be held on Tuesday, November 25th at 2:00 P.M. at St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake. Pastors Michael Nirva and Martin Schoenfeld will officiate. Interment St. James Cemetery. Nancy Butterfass will be the organist.

A visitation will be held on Monday, November 24th from 4-8 P.M. at The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted. A Prayer service will be held at 7:00 P.M.

Further visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the Church on Tuesday, November 25th.

Casket Bearers will be Jon Smith, Sherwin Schwartzrock, Jeff Smith, Nathan Zellmann, Charlie Kern and Wyatt Kern.
