Cleone Valerie (Robertson) Provost, age 66 of Peever, SD, died on Thursday, September 4, 2008 at her residence in Peever, SD.
Cleone was born on January 4, 1942 in Sisseton, SD to Dormalie (Owen) and Daniel “Ernest” Robertson.
Cleone attended school in Veblen, Old Agency Day School and graduated from the Flandreau Indian School.
Cleone was married to Lloyd Crawford, she later married James Provost and was widowed in 1995. Cleone had one son Ronald G. Kirk who she adored. In 1978 when Ronnie was 15 she took him to the Sturgis Bike Rally.
She was very active in his schooling and was so proud when he graduated form the SW Community College.
Cleone lived in Spokane, WA and Wahpeton, ND where she worked at the Wahpeton Indian School. When she returned to the Sisseton area she worked as a cook at the Tribal Elderly Program for 17 years. She then went to work at the Tiospa Zina Tribal School for 6 years until her retirement in 2005. Although retired she often subbed as a cook when she was needed.
Her hobbies were cooking, baking, crocheting and of course Rummage Sales. Cleone amussed many friends along the way and all of them have wonderful memeories of her.
Cleone was also dedicated to her church. She attended all the Mission Meetings and served as a Trustee for the Ascension Church.
Cleone is survived by her beloved son, Ronald and his wife MaryBeth, two grandsons Eddie and John, one grand-daughter Anna Rae. one brother Bruce (Elain) Robertson Sr., four sisters Helen “Shorty” Godfrey, Norma “Tiny” Perko, Georgia (Mike) Addison, Ruth “Ellen” Robertson and her very special friend Narcisse Lufkins. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and grandchildren. Cleone called all the children of her nieces and nephews her grandchildren and she treated each of them in her loving special way.
Cleone was truly loved by many people and will be greatly missed by all.
Funeral Services for Cleone Provost were held on Sunday, September 7th at 2.00 P.M. at Ascension Presbyterian Church in rural Peever, SD. Reverend Enright Big Horn, Reverend Jim Muskarat, Reverend Clifford Canku, Gerald Amos, John Cloud III and Gerald Heminger Jr. officiated. Interment followed at Ascension Cemetery in Peever, SD.
Special Music was provided by The Big Coulee Choir & The Big Coulee Youth Choir. Pianist was Billy Kohl and the Drum Group was “High Trail Singers”.
An all night wake was held on Saturday, September 6th beginning at 7:00 P.M. at The Ascension Guild Hall.
Honorary Pallbearers were Wanda Thompson, Bonnie Thompson, Linda Thompson, Monica Thompson, Theresa Thompson, Colette White, Lois Jackson, Linda Zephier, Alberta Crawford, Marthia Johnson, Connie Peters, Sandy White and Arlene “Punkie” Shepherd.
Pallbearers were Bruce LuVern Robertson Jr., David John Roberts, Terrance George Robertson, Bruce Edward Godfrey Sr., John William Perko and Shelby Keeble.
