Carla (Karla) Denise DeMarrias age 42, born May 23rd, 1976 of Standing Rock Reservation, journeyed into the spirit world surrounded by family and friends in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Saturday, June 2nd, 2018.
Karla served in the military as a Combat Medic Specialist for the United States Army and later joined the Army Reserves. Karla was a licensed E.M.T. and supervisor. Her final duty was Camp Taji HHC 4th Brigade Aviation 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas. She provided medical support and training for all medical personnel in her unit. Karla was loyal, compassionate and generous. She had an incredible giving spirit. At Karla’s request, her organs were donated and already, Karla has saved lives. A flag was flown in her honor over Hennepin County Medical Center at the time of her journey. Many of Karla’s friends and military colleagues speak of her contagious laughter, wonderful humor and compassion for animals. Karla will be deeply missed by so many friends, family and colleagues.
She is survived by her mother: Marilyn Adele(Bird Horse); daughters: Alana and Erin; granddaughter: Allorah; Alana’s grandmother: Dorla; soulmate: Henry Winter III; siblings: DeVonne Marie, D’Aun Timothy, Trisha Dyanne, Tamara Laurelle, Lauren Ruth, Tyrell Seth and Mariah Sage; beloved cat: KeKe; a host of cousins and relatives who loved and adored her.
Preceded in death by maternal grandparents: Gladys Bird Horse and Reginald Bird Horse Sr.; paternal grandparents: Helen E. DeMarrias and Earl F. DeMarrias; father: Timothy George DeMarrias; and brother: Tristan William Bird Horse.
Alana DeMarrias, Henry Winter III and the family of Karla DeMarrias would like to acknowledge: H.C.M.C. Critical Care Staff, LifeSource Donor Team, Robert Gill and Chilson Funeral Chapel.
