Visitation Information

Baptiste Lincoln Barker, Jr., age 72, known to many as Lincoln or “Clinker”, journeyd to the spirit world on May 7, 2010. Lincoln was a resident of the Tekakwitha Nursing Home in Sisseton, SD at the time of his death.

Lincoln was born on October 12, 1937 to Baptiste Barker and Louisa Roy LaFromboise; he was one of six children. Lincoln was a direct descendent of Chief Little Crow. He was a SWO Tribal Member and a member of Big Coulee “Iyakaptapi” District.

Lincoln enjoyed drinking coffee and visiting with his relatives, talking Dakota, and eating his sweets, especially chocolate bars and oatmeal cookies. He also enjoyed reading the Sota tribal paper and detective stories. He enjoyed watching sports on television, especially baseball, “The Beverly Hillbillies”, as well as listening to music.

Lincoln moved to California where he met and married Dorothy Belgarde, who was from the Turtle Mountains. They moved to Dunseith, ND, where they resided for several years. He later relocated back to his hometown. He had a special friend for many years, Dora LaCroix, who passed away last year.

Lincoln demonstrated and lived by the Dakota values; in particular, generosity and sharing, as well as respect and compassion. Lincoln will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

Lincoln is survived by three sisters: Jeanette Barker, Darlene Barker and Geraldine Barker; paternal aunt: Lorraine German; uncles: Vern Cloud, and Iver Cloud, Sr.; aunts: Ruth Campbell, Claudette and Fern Cloud; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many other relatives.

Lincoln was preceded in death by his parents; brother: Albert Spider, Sr.; sisters: Mabel Spider, Betty Spider and Estelle Barker.

Wake Services will be held at the Old Agency Community Center on Sunday, May 9, 2010, at 7:00 p.m.; all night wake service on Monday May 10, 2010, at 7:00 p.m. and continuing until the time of the funeral. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at the Old Agency Community Center.

Interment will be at the Big Coulee Ascension Presbyterian Cemetery. Officiating will be Enright Big Horn and Gerald Heminger, Jr.

Honorary Casket Bearers: John German, Sr., Orville White, Jerry Flute, Edmund TwoStars, Daryl Renville, Ed Godfrey and all relatives and friends.

Casketbearers are Justin German, Thomas “Hammy” Marks, Joshua Brown, Edmund Johnson, Leon Marks, and JD Herbert DeCoteau.

The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted, MN served the family.
