Arthur B. “Art” Scherping, age 78 of Winsted, MN passed away on Saturday, September 16th, 2017 at St. Mary’s Care Center surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on January 31, 1939 in Freeport, Minnesota the son of Bernard “Ben” & Marcella (Pogatchnik) Scherping.
On August 17, 1960, Arthur B. Scherping and Agnes A. Riesner were joined in holy marriage in St. Wendel. God blessed their marriage with seven children.
In 1979, Art founded Art’s Welding in Winsted. Through his strong work ethic and business sense, Art’s Welding became a national stainless steel manufacturing company. He was proud to give tours of his shop.
He enjoyed playing golf and cards, shaking dice, making bets, and joking around with family and friends. Art was a generous provider to his family.
He was a faithful member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted.
Survived by his loving wife: Aggie; Children: Gary (Kelli) Scherping of Winsted, Debbie (John) Travis of Chaska, Tom (Kristin) Scherping of Winsted, Brenda (Fritz) Westphal of Minneapolis, Dennis Scherping of Winsted and Patty (Ron) Stellmaker of Victoria; a daughter-in law, Joann Scherping,; nineteen grandchildren and one great grandchild; brothers and a sister: Everett (Beverly) Scherping of Freeport, Virgil (Elaine) Scherping of Winsted, Danny (Evelyn) Scherping of Cambridge, Tom (Anita) Scherping of Helena, Montana and Linda (James) Breth of Holdingford; many other relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by his son Terry Scherping on July 22nd, 2014 and by his parents Ben & Marcella Scherping.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Art Scherping will be held on Thursday, September 21st, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. Father Paul Schumacher will be the Celebrant.
Interment will follow at Holy Trinity Cemetery.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 20th, 2017 from 4-8 P.M. with a prayer service at 7:30 P.M. at the church. Further visitation will be held one hour prior to Mass on Thursday, September 21st.
