Alice M. (Schurmann) Hausladen, age 91, passed away Tuesday, September 1, 2020 at St. Mary’s Care Center in Winsted, MN.

She was born May 1, 1929, in Dupree, South Dakota, to John and Pauline Schurmann. The family lived on a farm near Eagle Butte, SD, where Alice developed her strong work ethic and deep religious faith. She attended Fairview School, a one room schoolhouse, and moved to Minnesota in the fall of 1946.

Alice married Henry Hausladen Jr. May 25, 1950, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted, MN.

They bought part of the original Hausladen homestead and began farming. Their marriage was blessed with 12 children.

Alice was a lifelong, faithful member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted, MN, and belonged to the Council of Catholic Women, Holy Family Society, and St. Anne’s Society. Her faith was extremely important and kept her going when times were rough.

Alice loved living on the farm and especially enjoyed gardening, canning, raising chickens, baking homemade bread, making quilts, and sewing. She had a great sense of humor.

But more than anything, she loved being a mother to all of her dear children. Family get togethers and holidays were most important to her. She was a constant source of ongoing love and support for her family.

Alice is survived by children: Charles (partner Vicki Lietzau) Hausladen of Hutchinson, MN, David (Renee) Hausladen of Montrose, MN, Mary Hausladen (Eric Larson) of Seattle, WA, Luanne (Gerald) Kucera of Silver Lake, MN, Richard (Jan) Hausladen of Hutchinson, MN, Alice Hausladen (Les Poltrack) of Los Altos, CA, Paul (Jean Ann) Hausladen, of Chandler, AZ, Dan (Lora) Hausladen of New Germany, MN, Ann Hausladen (Craig Schultz) of Highlands Ranch, CO, and Tony (Kim) Hausladen of Lester Prairie, MN. She is also survived by 35 grandchildren; 47 great grandchildren; brother Bobby Schurmann of New Germany, MN, sister Geraldine (Glenn) Pysick of Rogers, MN, and many friends at St. Mary’s Care Center.

In addition to her husband Henry and parents, Pauline and John, Alice was preceded in death by daughter Lois Shimanski, an infant son Henry, grandson Jeff Hausladen, granddaughter Stephanie Hausladen, brothers Lawrence Schurmann and Harold Schurmann, and sister Lucille Gesinger.

A Private Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, September 7, 2020 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted, MN. Grandson Father Jeremy Kucera will be the celebrant. Interment will follow at Holy Trinity Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted, MN on Sunday, September 6 at 4:00-8:00 pm with a rosary recited at 7:00 pm.

Casket Bearers will be Derek Hausladen, Adam Poltrack, Cory Hausladen, Nathaniel Hausladen, Tyler Hausladen, Ben Larson, Vince Shimanski and Stephanie Schultz.
