Adam Walter Malaterre,“Nibawiwin Mashkodebishiki ode” (Standing Buffalo Heart), age 23, of Belcourt, North Dakota journeyed to the Spirit World on Monday, November 4, 2013.

He was born on October 23rd, 1990 in Minot, North Dakota the son of Walter Malaterre and Brenda Baker.

Adam was raised in Belcourt, North Dakota where he attended school and graduated from Turtle Mountain High School in 2010. He then enrolled in Quentin Burdick Job Corps in Minot, North Dakota where he graduated in August 2013 with a welding degree. He was very proud of both of these accomplishments.

Adam had a very friendly personality and a smile and laugh that could brighten anyone’s day. He was full of life and loved his family and friends. Many said he had a “heart of gold”. Adam had a special bond with all who knew him especially his little brother Sam who was his “Fishing Buddy” and to his sister Alexis who was his twin for a month each year. Adam loved his family and was very happy when surrounded by the ones he loved.

Adam met the love of his life Sammi in 2009. Through many talks and visits their love grew to planning a future together. There were even talks over the bonfire of a “Redneck Wedding” but nothing was ever set. Adam loved Sammi with all his heart and was looking forward to a long future of happiness with her.

Adam has many people who will forever be touched by him and will always love and miss him including many Aunts, Uncles and Cousins from the Malaterre and Baker families to his extended family on Sammi’s side including his 2nd Mom and Dad: Michelle and Yves Permentier, his other siblings Eric (Angell) Krista and Ethan, Grandma and Papa: Mary and Gary Angell and Great Grandpa: Jim (Sambo) Hummel to many Aunts, Uncles and Cousins from the Angell and Hummel families.
Adam was interested in many things from playing with his remote control cars, playing games with family such as his many daily Zombie kills with his dad Jack and weekly dinners and shows with Michelle and Sammi such as Sons of Anarchy to his Duck Dynasty. One cannot forget looking forward to the Catching up with Gossip calls to mom. He was always interested in hearing all the latest news. Adam lived with the motto to be “Happy Happy Happy” all the time!
In Adam’s words (since he hated Goodbyes)
It’s I’ll see ya later!

I am a great Aunt of Sammi. I never met Adam, but felt I knew him through hearing about him from Sammi. I really was looking forward to meeting him in person on my next trip home to N.D. I think I would have loved him as much as everyone else.

Words cannot express how sorry I am for your loss. You all have my sympathies.

I remember the first time I met you, I didn’t know my way around Burdick Job Corp Center. You had showed me where to go. You have always been a great mentor and buddy to be around and someone to go to for advice. You may be gone but you will never be forgotten in my heart. I miss you Adam.
