Juanita Mae Owen, “Wiyaka Waste Win” Journeyed to the Spirit World on Wednesday, July 28th, 2010 at her residence in Agency Village, South Dakota. She was born on May 7, 1948 to Gordon and Florine (Feather) Owen. Juanita grew up at the Feather Homestead in Big Coulee, Peever, South Dakota. She attended grade school at the Big Coulee Day School and High School at The Flandreau Indian School. She was united in marriage to George Bagola in 1965, from this marriage three children were born, Derek, Justin and Stephanie Bagola all of Sisseton, South Dakota. Juanita also had one adopted son Curtis Fayant of Sisseton, South Dakota. Juanita was a very quiet, caring person. She had many friends and her home was always open to anyone who came to visit. Juanita’s fulltime job was caring for and raising her children and the children of many of her friends. She baby sat many children in this community. Juanita was an Elder for The Ascension Church of Big Coulee. Juanita also served as the Secretary for the Tribal Elderly Board. When not caring for children, Juanita loved to play bingo. She was preceded in death by her parents: Gordon and Florine (Feather) Owen, two sisters: Christine Owen Wanna and Winifred Owen, her maternal grandparents Silas and Lillian (DeCoteau) Feather, her paternal grandparents Howard and Lydia (Bernard) Owen and a nephew: Shane Owen. Survivors include her sisters: Jacquelyn (Owen) and her husband Larry Lowe of Summit, South Dakota, Kathy (Feather) and her husband Joe White of Sisseton and her adopted sister Faith Lufkins of New Effington, South Dakota; her children: Derek, Justin and Stephanie Bagola all of Sisseton, South Dakota; maternal uncle: John (Joan) Feather of Peever, South Dakota; twelve grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Juanita will truly be missed by all her family, relatives and friends. Funeral services for Juanita Owen will be held on Sunday, August 1st at 2:00 P.M. at The Sisseton-Wahpeton Community Center in Old Agency Village, South Dakota. Officiating will be Reverend Enright Bighorn, Jr. Heminger and John Cloud, III. Special music by Clyde Kampeska, Carl Lufkins, Joe & Kathy White and The Big Coulee Choir. Drum Group will be Old Agency Singers. Pianist will be Billy Kohl. Wakes will be held Thursday and Friday beginning at 7:00 P.M. at the Community Center in Old Agency Village, South Dakota. An all night wake will be held Saturday, July 31st beginning at 7:00 P.M. at The Community Center in Old Agency Village, South Dakota. Honorary Casket Bearers will be Mary Shaw, Doris Bursheim, Verna Sargent, Faith Lufkins, Yvette Kohl, Carol Baccaro, Janelle Bursheim, Sharon Feather and Joan Feather. Casket Bearers will be Jeremy Lowe, Lorne Lowe, Leo Lowe, Thurston Owen, Wayne Heminger, Harold Bernard, Lee Bernard, Vernon Pasha Renville and Francis Heminger, Jr. Arrangments for Juanita Owen are by The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted, Minnesota.
